Cancer Challenge 2019

Cancer is the second cause of death in the world. That’s scary. This month, let’s think of all the people who have to live with cancer in their everyday lives.

Le cancer est la deuxième cause de décès dans le monde entier. Ça fait peur. Ce mois-ci, pensons aux gens qui au quotidien sont apportées à vivre avec le cancer, de près ou de loin.

Every year, Christine from Sweet Potato 3 hosts an event called the Cancer Challenge. The goal is pretty simple: to crochet as many hats as possible. Everyday for the whole month of october, you have the opportunity to download a hat pattern, for free. But by doing so, you pledge to crochet a hat with this pattern to give to an association or a cancer patient.

Chaque année, Christine de chez Sweet Potato 3 organise un événement appelé le Cancer Challenge. Le but est très simple: crocheter le plus de tuques possible. Chaque jour pour tout le mois d’octobre, vous aurez l’opportunité de télécharger gratuitement un modèle de tuque (même si la plupart ne sont offerts qu’en anglais, le mien, celui-ci, l’est aussi en français!!). Mais ce faisant, vous promettez d’en faire au moins une pour une organisation ou un patient atteint du cancer.

Je vous présente Invincible. Un hommage à mon père.

You see, my dad, on the picture, is a prostate cancer survivor. It was several years ago but I can still remember the shock I had when I received the news. The big and scary C…. Cancer. I thought: How could this happen? What did we do to deserve this? But my dad’s story has a happy ending. He went into surgery, and now he is officially in complete remission. Everyday, I’m extremely grateful to his doctors for their hard work and expertise. Thanks to them, my dad is still in our lives, healthy.

Voyez-vous, mon papa, sur la photo, est un survivant du cancer de la prostate. C’était il y a plusieurs années mais je me souviens encore du choc que j’ai eut quand j’ai appris la nouvelle. Le grand et effrayant C….. Cancer. J’ai pensé: Comment ça a pu arriver? Pourquoi nous? Mais l’histoire de mon papa a une fin heureuse. Il a subit une opération et il est maintenant officiellement en rémission complète. Et chaque jour, je suis extrêmement reconnaissante envers ses docteurs pour leur travail et leur expertise. Grâce à eux, mon père est toujours parmi nous, en bonne santé.

My dad says:

When the doctor announced me that is really was a cancer, an intense heat invaded my body and I felt an intense frustration. When we walked out of the office, my wife and me, we cried like the world around us just shattered.

The wait for the surgery was really hard. You count the days, then it’s the time.

The surgery went well. But 50% of my healing was thanks to the support and the love of my 3 daughters and my wife. Giving up was out of question. No matter where this cancer is, it will play in my head, but with support, you can pull through.

Thank you to the 4 loves of my life, thanks to you, I am who I am today.

Mon papa dit:

Lorsque le médecin m’a annoncé que c’était un cancer, une sensation de chaleur a envahi mon corps et je sentais une frustration intense. En sortant du bureau, avec mon épouse, on est parti à pleurer comme si le monde venait de s’écrouler.

L’attente pour l’opération fut assez difficile. Tu comptes les jours, et puis ça arrive.

L’opération s’est bien déroulée. Mais 50% de ma guérison, c’est grâce au soutien et l’amour de mes 3 filles et de mon épouse. Pas question de me laisser avoir. Peu importe où est ce cancer, il va jouer dans ma tête, mais c’est avec ce support que tu peux t’en sortir.

Merci aux 4 plus grands amours de ma vie, grâce à vous, je suis ce que je suis.

My dad is now healthy. I know not everybody has this chance. So please take a moment to download this pattern for free. Make as many hats as possible to donate for free to a cancer patient you know, or an association of your choice. Remember: one download = a pledge to make at least one hat to donate.
